on 4/30/08 in Philadelphia, where the
20th Anniversary Pioneer Awards winners were announced.

This announcement was made today in Philadelphia inside of a media filled ballroom at the Lowes Hotel, by R&B Foundation Executive Director Patricia Alden-Wilson (pictured above). On a personal note, I am quite pleased to make note that several of the award winners this year are also active members of Soul-Patrol. Obviously we will have much more coverage of this on both Soul-Patrol.com and RadioIO.com, the 20th Anniversary of the Pioneer Awards, leading up to and including the awards ceremony itself on September 9, 2008 at the Kimmel Center on Broad Street in Philadelphia.

It was a pleasure meeting such a new pioneer who has such great skills when it comes to his special flows, and the messages in his music, here's how the Exclusive interview with "DOC Da Surgeon" went:

(DOC) I WAS ORIGINALLY BORN IN THE VIRGIN ISLANDS. AND I CAME TO FLORIDA AROUND 6 OR 7 YRS OLD. IM 27. AND IF I HAD TO CHARACTERIZE MY MUSI STYLE, IT WOULD PROBABLY CALL IT "LIFE MUSIC"

(DOC) TO BE HONEST WITH YOU I PUT IN A LOT OF E-MAILS, AND A LOT OF CONTACTS.NOT SETTLING FOR JUST ANYTHING...BASICALLY GRINDIN'. THE GAME DONT COME TO YOU, YOU GOTTA GO OUT THERE AND GET IT.

Who is your Idol, or what artist is favorite?
(DOC) MY IDOL IS JESUS CHRIST. NEVER PUT YA FAITH IN MAN. MAN WILL ALWAYS FAIL YOU. AS FAR AS AN ARTIST, I DON'T REALLY HAVE A FAVORITE. I HAVE A FEW...DEAD PREZ, MOS DEF, NAS, 2PAC. YOU KNOW, PEOPLE THAT "SPIT" WITH SUBSTANCE..

What kind of music style do you have?

I DON'T KNOW IF I HAVE A PARTICULAR STYLE. I CONSIDER MY SELF A VERSATILE MC. IF YOU WANT IT SLOWED DOWN, I CAN SLOW IT DOWN, IF YOU WANT IT FAST, I CAN SPEED IT UP. MUSIC IS LIKE MAKING LOVE TO YA WIFE. YOUR IN IT FOR THE LONG HAUL SO YOU CANT KEEP GIVING HER THAT SAME OL' GRIND. YOU GOTTA CHANGE POSITIONS.LOL

How Old Were You When You First Started Rapping?
(DOC) TO BE REAL WITH YOU I WASN'T ONE OF THOSE RAPPERS THATS BEEN RAPPING SINCE I WAS 5 YRS OLD. I MEAN ME AND DA HOMIES USED TO JOKE AROUND AND FREESTYLE INFRONT OF DA HOUSE WHEN WE WAS KIDS BUT I DIDN'T REALLY TAKE IT SERIOUS UNTIL RIGHT AFTER MY FIRST LIL GIRL WAS BORN. I WAS 22 THEN. THE JOB I WAS WORKING WASNT SATISFYING THE LIFE I WANTED TO GIVE HER. SO I FOCUSED ON THIS...ONE OF THE BEST CHOICES I EVER MADE.

(DOC) I'M JUST COMING OUT THE BOX RIGHT NOW AND I HAVENT HAD A CHANCE TO DO A SHOW WITH ANY BIG STARS YET. I AINT GOTTA FAKE WIT YA. IM NOT MAKIN MYSELF LOOK BIGGER THAN I "WILL" BE..LET ME SAY THAT AGAIN, THAN I "WILL" BE! . I DO SHOWS WITH THE LOCAL TALENT IN MY AREA RIGHT NOW. BUT ITS SO MUCH LOVE WE ALREADY FEEL LIKE WE STARS SOMETIMES..SHOUT OUT TO 1WILL,TARRO,CHASE,ARIGINAL,J-BURNA,CREEPA,SIX-ONE,RAGU,T-SOLO,
XTRAORDINAIRE,ADAJOR, JIMMY STARR AND THE WHOLE STAFF AT "DA SPOT"!

Who is your favorite Candidate For President?
(DOC) YOU ALREADY KNOW ITS OBAMA.. ALL THE WAY. BUT NOT JUST CAUSE HE'S MAY BE OUR FIRST BLACK PRESIDENT. IT'S BECAUSE I LIKE WHAT HE GOT TO SAY. SOMETIMES WE AS A PEOPLE GET SO CAUGHT UP IN WHAT THE MAJORITY LIKES, THEY DONT TAKE THE TIME TO SEE "WHY" THE MAJORITY LIKES HIM.

Where do you see Da Surgeon in the near future?
(DOC) WOW..SKY IS THE LIMIT. I DONT KNOW WHAT GOD GOT EXACTLY IN STORE FOR ME. BUT I KNOW ITS BIG..REAL BIG. MTS READERS, REMEMBER YOU HEARD IT HEAR FIRST. THIS IS THE EXCLUSIVE! EXCLUSIVE! INTERVIEW! YOU WILL BE HEARING FROM ME IN THE NEAR FUTURE.

What goals are you setting for your self and your career?
(DOC) MY GOALS ARE HIGH SO MY EXPECTATIONS ARE HIGH. ITS A LOT MESSED UP THINGS GOING ON RIGHT IN OUR OWN BACK YARD AND I INTEND TO USE MY WEALTH TO TRY TO CHANGE OR AT LEAST LEND A HELPING HAND TO IT. IT AINT EASY OUT HERE. I WOULD HAVE LOVED FOR SOMEBODY TO HAVE GIVEN ME A HELPING HAND WHEN I NEEDED IT. I DONT BELIEVE IN "MAKIN IT RAIN" TO MANY KIDS OUT HERE HUNGRY.

(DOC) TO BE REAL WITH YOU. I USUALLY JUST LOOK AT THE PICTURES AND READ THE CAPTIONS..LOL UNLESS I SEE SOMETHING THAT GRABS MY ATTENTION THEN MAYBE ILL READ A FEW PARAGRAPHS. BUT I LIKE OZONE MAGAZINE AND THE SOURCE AND OFCOURSE MTS!
